Long period forecast of the wind energy use in the field of the German Baltic Sea

Ordering party: Vattenfall Europe Transmission GmbH

On 12-17-2006 the act on the acceleration of  infrastructure plans ("lnfrastrukturplanungsbeschleunigungsgesetz") became effective. This act is meant to simplify the planning and realization of different infrastructure projects, for example grid lines. In connection with this resposibilities for infrastructural developments were organized newly. The Vattenfall Europe Transmission GmbH is now responsible for all the grid lines to offshore windfarm projects in the complete German Baltic Sea. Vattenfall Europe Transmission GmbH therefore engaged OECOS GmbH as well as the Institute for Applied Ecology (IfAÖ) to work out an objective mid- and long-term forecast of the development possibilities for the offshore wind energy use in the German Baltic Sea.

The first task, processed by OECOS was the enquiry and representation of the midterm (2015) and longterm (2025) conceivable technical development possibilities for offshore wind parks. The results became an important information to assess the OWP maximum capacity performance, respectively possible for forecast dates 2015 and 2025.
