Ornithological observation onshore

In the context of environmental impact studies and compensation planning for onshore projects, we conduct ornithological observations, especially observations of breeding and resting birds as well as surveys of the spatial pattern of diurnal birds of prey. Observations of breeding birds are carried out according to the quality standards for the use of ornithological data in spatial planning of the German Ornithological Society (Pannach 1995) or the method standards for the observation of breeding birds of the governing body of German bird specialists (Südbeck et al. 2005).

With systematic recording of resting and migratory birds, we examine the spatial and temporal characteristic of bird migration and the occurrence of migrant birds in concrete areas. Beside phenological aspects, the spatial use of different bird species is registered, mainly regarding search for food, rest, moult and sleep. In the context of ornithological studies for onshore wind farms, we identify food habitats and flight paths of sensitive or protected bird species.
