Protection of species evaluation for the approval procedure related to immission control enactment

EON Energy Projects GmbH is the operator of the Beta Baltic project, which concerns the succession planning for the formerly scheduled SKY 2000 wind farm. The planning zone of this wind farm, whose capacity was 100 MW, was located in the centre of the Mecklenburg Bay. The original project consisted of 64 installations with a capacity of 1.5 MW, located on an area close to the sandbank known as Sagas-Bank. Following the conclusions of the ecological analyses, the project was concentrated on an area situated at approximately 19 km from the coast of East Holstein. As the water depth of this zone is around 20 m, it is placed outside of particular ecologically sensitive shallow water areas.

In the superior regional planning procedure for the original project SKY 2000, which was planned on the same area, OECOS GmbH had conducted the environmental impact assessment and the FFH assessment. In addition to the regional planning procedure, the two-step approval procedure for greater projects now also includes a sub-procedure related to the immission control enactment, in which the forecasts obtained through the superior procedure are presented. For this procedure, OECOS recently conducted an evaluation, in accordance to the species conservation enactment, of the expected impacts of the submitted wind farm Beta Baltic on the fauna and flora.
