Subterranean regional development planning and sustainable resources management

Jointly with the ÖKO-Institut (in charge), G.E.O.S. Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, team ewen and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development, OECOS GmbH is awarded the contract for the R&D project “Subterranean regional development planning and sustainable resources management using the example of selected regions” (Support Code 3711 16 103 1/2). The study of subterranean regional development planning is to investigate a tool which employs preventative control elements to achieve a balance of claims on subterranean space use that is guided by the German government’s climate protection targets. It is thus clearly in line with the objectives of the Coalition Agreement, according to which “we will endeavour to establish the basis of subterranean regional development planning”. In the context of the research project “Subterranean regional development planning”, the fundamental links between earth science, planning and legal aspects are analysed. On the basis of the results of a preceding project, the feasibility of implementing the subterranean regional development planning is examined in depth.
