Survey of Climate-Neutral Juist

With the “Climate island Juist” project, the municipality of Juist set itself the goal to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2030 by switching to renewable energy. In 2013 OECOS GmbH was commissioned by EWE Vertrieb GmbH to examine the island’s wind energy potential. For this purpose, an analysis of the possible use of buildings and areas with small and mini wind turbines on the island of Juist was performed using a geographic information system. The results were shown in overview maps. OECOS GmbH was able to demonstrate that Juist has significant potential for generating energy through wind power, even though there is competition for areas in the form of tourism and nature conservation.
