Biotope Mapping
Biotope mapping is regarded a reliable indicator for the ecological of an area and represents a base for further assessments. Biotope types are classified units for biotope groups. The biotic and abiotic functions of a biotype can determine its ecological status and significance for the ecosystem. In the context of environmental impacts studies and development mitigation plans, we carry out biotope mappings and special samplings such as the red list of endangered biotope types. The mapping and assessment method follows the approach of the federal state concerned and considers state-specific protection regulations.
For our fieldwork we use modern mapping analysers and GPS equipment, which enable us to represent and evaluate the obtained information according to their exact location through a geographical information system, for a example for a tree or land register. The boundaries of the biotope types are additionally compared with current aerial photographs and topographic maps (ATKIS). By the usage of GIS, the various information can then be linked, displayed and queried. The results of the biotope mapping are included in our environmental studies.
