Environmental Impact Study for the Offshore Wind Farm “SKY 2000”

The client first requested in September 1999 an official acknowledgement that a construction of the planned wind farm “SKY 2000” (today´s name: “Beta Baltic”) with 50 to 55 wind turbines in the Mecklenburg Bay suits the objectives of regional planning (the first step in the permit process). During the approval process OECOS coordinated the environmental impact studies (including an FFH compatibility study) and summarized the results. The suitability of the project with regional planning was confirmed. OECOS contributed significantly to the planning process by successfully arguing that the project be moved about 10 km seaward towards a spot where it is well outside of existing or planned conservation areas and at a distance that is compatible with coastal tourism.
